“You say that luck used to find you at every turn. But the truly lucky person is the one who creates their own luck. And true luck comes from a balanced mind, positive impulses, and meaningful actions.” - Marcus Aurelius
Fortune isn’t about waiting for luck to find you; it’s about creating your own through mindset, actions, and integrity.
In sales, success isn’t based on chance, it’s about sharpening your skills, building relationships, and showing up consistently.
Focus on improving your pitch, follow-ups, and understanding your clients to create the conditions for success.
Don’t wait for luck, make it happen.
Actionable tips:
- Be proactive. Don’t wait for the perfect lead to land in your inbox. Reach out, follow up, and go the extra mile. You’ll find that good things happen when you take control of your pipeline.
- Spend time refining your skills, whether it’s role-playing cold calls, learning new techniques, or even studying psychology to better understand your clients.
- A consistent routine, like a morning ritual for planning your day, can help you focus on what you can control and build momentum that drives results.
Remember you will die.

I should be so lucky. Lucky, lucky, lucky. In the rich man's world. You think we're going to talk about money or wealthiness? We're not. We're talking about making your own luck. The 24th. in Ireland means what? To see. Money. 24th of May. You say that luck used to find you at every turn, but the truly lucky person is the one who creates their own luck.
And true luck comes from a balanced mind, positive impulses, meaningful actions. Marcus Aurelius. Mate, I've never heard you read so well. Thank you. That was really, really nice. Thank you. Right. Well, I'm going to do something that I haven't done on any episode this year. I'm going to get it out. time. Right. This is my phone. I've got a phone case here. Someone's doing well. And what I want to do is I want to share with you some things I've been reading. I saw this in a newsletter and I actually haven't remembered it. So shoot me if you don't remember it.
The Oxford language English dictionary defines luck as success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's actions. Okay. But actually it is down to your own actions. So there are four types of luck. There's blind luck. There's luck from motion. There's luck from awareness and luck from uniqueness. You know these? No, I don't. Okay. So blind luck, where you're born, who you're born to.
based circumstances of your life acts of God. Fine. So you were born in South shore and Blackpool, blind luck. Okay. Telling me you got black hair. Yeah. Blind luck. What else would be my other? What? Curling thick. Curling thick, blind luck, thick and blind luck. Okay. That covers like truly random occurrences. So like you win the lottery.
That's blind luck. Yeah, mate. I've got it. Move on. Luck from motion. So something else has been added. Motion, a certain basic level of action stirs up the pot. So like what you're creating motion collisions through hustle and energy that you're ascertaining to the ecosystem. You're you're kind of expanding the expansion of your luck surface area. So you start a new job. You start saying yes to every opportunity that comes your way. You're working hard, running around, meeting new people. You're going to get a lot more opportunities.
Let's just double check people at home. Just comment the last time you expanded your own expansion. did it every day. Type three, luck from awareness. Luck presents only a faint clue. The potential opportunity exists, but will be overlooked except by that one person uniquely equipped to observe it. So this is a result of your awareness and depth of your understanding. So you're an entrepreneur. You see the impressive pace at which generative AI is developing for creating images and arts.
You've been building around the NFT profile picture craze and you use that to double down. So your awareness of luck. you're using your, maybe your opportunities, things that you know. Okay. So is that your ability to spot my, my unique perspective allows me to see there's a gap here and makes you lucky. is it the
someone else would see that and go, they got lucky. Yeah. But I was able to determine there's an opportunity. Your mind was prepared for the lucky opportunity. Right. Yeah. But it looks like it was a lot. It was like to if you were the first person to stumble upon cold coffee in a can. But actually, how did you know? Well, and then luck from uniqueness. OK, so we've got blind luck, motion luck, awareness luck and then uniqueness. This comes to you because of who you are and how you behave.
You spent years tinkering with AI models, way before they were cocktail party fodder. Your unique passion and earned expertise means that you're often called on by founders and CEOs building at the forefront because of who you are. Okay. So actually we talk about luck, but it's about creating your own luck and luck can become a science. So what you can't control is your blind luck. I can't say, okay, am I going to grow another ear? That'd be lucky. But what you can do
If you grew another ear that'd be lucky. It would be for me, mate. Why? Because of the amount I listen to your bullshit. Very good. That's a very good job. So top salespeople can't rely on blind luck. And we've seen this. So let's take it back to sales now. Blind luck. You call somebody, you're pitching them. yeah, we were literally just looking at that call. Luck. Luck. But also motion. But if it's the first call of the day and you've not picked up the phone in whatever.
But if you're having a hundred calls a day and then you get that, well, that's some kind of motion. Awareness luck would be when you hear somebody say, well, it's not really a problem. you go, they said not really because I'm in tune with like sales and communication. Not really. I'm going to dig on that. You dig deeper. You find out they do have a problem. You got lucky. So like when you were presenting to the board and you're speaking, you say, like, I got this deal. How did you get it? A of people could go, Oh, you got lucky.
And in most instances, in most businesses, there's one person that brings on a deal that's huge. And it's like very lucky. know we had a mutual friend who did one deal and he got the commission and went and set up his own businesses and things like that. But what kind of luck was that? Was it blind luck or was it actually motion because he was doing some bits there? Or was it the awareness or was it just because who he was? And actually they shared the same name or they're from the same town and that element of luck, the uniqueness.
make him luckier. Yeah, apparently my, ⁓ my auntie uncle will ask my mom how the business is going. I don't think I'll actually know is the answer to the question. She has some generic answer and their response is always like, come on, if it was, if it was that easy, anyone could do it. It looks like on the outside, it even looks like I'm not telling the truth or that it's just unbelievable. Look, can't possibly be the reality of
just consistency and graph and artwork. So if you're watching, get back in your caravan and enjoy Cornwall. I've been Jack Frimston. I've been Zach Thompson. Remember you would die. St. Ives.
